Here at Evening Star Designs we try very hard to carry the items you'd like to see most. I have been trying to guess which threads and Ribbon you'd like us to carry.
I'd like to know what kind of embroidery threads you enjoy most!
I thought I'd tell you ones I like the best, and why. Hopefully, you'll let me know if you like these choices, and if you have good suggestions, I'd like to know what they are, and why you like them!
When sales are very slow on some of our items, I have to think about the price of keeping those items in stock. It would help a lot if I knew what things you liked the best, so I wouldn't have to guess!
I have listed these items in the page footer, and hope you will read about them. Whether you do or not, I really need YOUR Suggestions for what you'd like to see us carry - things you have a hard time finding elsewhere!
Carolyn
Here are some of the threads I enjoy most and why:
1. Wildflowers Thread by the Caron Collection: This lovely thread is so beautiful and versatile! It comes in so many beautiful colors - some just shaded, and many that are fine combinations of several colors! This thread is a single strand which makes it perfect for sewing Crazy Quilt Stitches. The twist is not too tight, another thing that makes it exceptionally easy to use. It is just the right weight - larger than a size 12 perle, and smaller than a size 8. This is my favorite thread for CQ Stitches - and more!
2. Perle Cotton size 8: This size perle is very versatile and easy to work with. I highly recommend this size and type of thread for Crazy Quilting! It is a single strand, highly polished and shiny, and very easy to use! I am told that the Finca is the highest quality, Anchor is next, and DMC is of only a slightly lower quality to the Anchor. Finca comes in some beautiful colors, but not as many as Anchor, or DMC. I think most stitchers are probably familiar with the DMC colors.
3. Silk Buttonhole Twist Thread: While not as easy to work with, this thread is just perfect for making CQ Stitches that hold their shape! It is soft, lovely to feel, shiny and has a high twist.
The price of this thread in the solid colors has exploded. It seems that all silk went up last year, and now they are saying that due to a cotton shortage, next year cottons and cotton fabrics and garments will also be going up in price.
While we experimented with carrying the Gloriana overdyed Silk Buttonhole Twist - it was terribly pricey. Judith Montano also sells some for around the same price. I stopped carrying it, as it was very costly to carry. At over $6 for 10 yards - I just wasn't sure their would continue to be a demand for it.
We are in the process of trying to have some dyed for Evening Star Designs. We have ordered the plain white thread, but it will be some time before we will have it in stock.
4. Stef Francis Fine Silk: This is lovely thread! It has a nice sheen, is of a weight comparable to the Wildflowers, and comes in a very nice array of colors. It does not have as high a twist as Silk Buttonhole Twist, and is easy to use. Again, because it is a single strand thread, it is perfect for using in Crazy Quilt stitches.
5. Stef Francis Rayon 1800: This is the nicest Rayon thread I have worked with. I also enjoy the stranded Raj Mahal - though it is much more difficult to work with. The Stef Francis is a single strand, very shiny and dyed in similar shades to the Stef Francis Silk.
6. ThreadworX Overdyes: ThreadworX makes some lovely overdyes. Their widest selection of colors is found in their overdyed cotton floss which is great. Their Overdyed Cotton perle in Size 12 and Size 8 are also nice. Most of the ThreadworX threads are shaded colors. There are a few that include several colors, and they are lovely.
7. Silk Floss: I have found that in solid colors I am very happy with the Soie Cristale Silk Floss from the Caron Collection. They have many nice colors that shade together very well. The price for these is very reasonable as well.
Specialty threads:
1. For now, I'd like to mention the Kreinik Metallic threads. We don't sell many of these, and I always wonder why. They are easy to work with, and I love the Metallic ribbon in 1/16" and 1/8" These are actually braided so they can be couched down flat, and used as stems or other linear designs. They are not overly shiny! They are just right. For those of you who are in our clubs, I hope you've had a chance to try them and see how nice they are to work with. For those of you who haven't tried these pretty threads - they really can add some nice pizazz to your stitching - try some!
You can see that I've listed many threads we currently carry. I've been debating whether we should continue to carry some of them. If you have good suggestions about something I haven't heard of, I'd love to hear them! I'd also love to hear why you like that particular thread! I hope you will take the short survey below to help us figure out what kinds of threads you like best!
