Some years ago, I was surprised to read in a study, that when kids were asked what their favorite Holiday was - Halloween won every time! At first this surprised me, but as I thought about it, I realized what a wonderful and imaginative outlet Halloween provides.
Each year they get to re-create themselves into whatever imaginary character they wish, and go swirling around the neighborhood after dark in their magical new persona - the candy is not the thing at all! My kids rarely cared about it after a couple of pieces.
Every year I tried hard to make them into whatever they imagined, Butterfly, Belly-dancer, Batman, Magician, Dragon, Princess, Cowboy, etc.
Like the kids, use your imagination! If you're past the age of trick-or-treat, you can still have fun and create wonderful one-of-a-kind Halloween Magic this year!
